Superweek Day 0

Spent the night in Muskego county park. Found that I'd forgotten some of my basic camping gear, notably my tarp. It had rained earlier in the evening and everything was wet. Managed to find paydirt on a lake beach, and slept on a patch of sand that was pretty close to dry. It started raining in the night, but Mr Quilty kept going strong and daylight found me feeling fresh and well rested. Plan for the day is to get my steed together and make my way to Chicago to watch the pro-race opener tonight. My first race will be tomorrow morning.

Superweek tech guide

The 2007 tech guide for Superweek was posted today. The event bible, it has all things important, like maps and course descriptions and payout tables. At 40 pages, it pushes todays modest staple technology to the limit.

I wrote a quick program for triaging images taken from my phone. I can now snap pictures and send them directly to an email address. A bit of python on the other end takes care of rotating, boosting the image contrast (my phone leans towards overexposure), and uploading it to this site.

I took that while out on a mellow cruise this morning. I got my phone out of my pocket, took a picture and emailed it, all in about 30 seconds and without having to slow down or stop peddaling. The picture was sitting pretty in the Loupe block when I came back home.

Closing in

This is going to be a slow and idle week. Last week was near 20 hours on the bike, and I'm bringing it all the way down to 8 or so to rest up before day 0. Dayjob-wise, there isn't much to keep me busy. There's some utilities and prototyping to work on, but I'm mostly making plans for visiting friends in the midwest and finding glory at Superweek.

So I've set up this blog. It's purring along on drupal 5, which is a nice improvement from the drupal 4 that I've been slinging at TFK. On my todo list of tech things is to make an FCG header image that's prettier than the schlock that comes with this theme, and to figure out a good system for sharing the low-contrast pictures I snap from my phone.
